Sometimes rightsholders may request that their works should be excluded from our licences. When this occurs licenceholders should seek permission from the rightsholder to copy the work unless they can do so within the scope of a fair dealing exception. The only rightsholder currently in this category is Standards NZ publications.
Our licence does not include the following types of works. If you wish to copy this material, then refer to the fair dealing exceptions or obtain permission from the rightsholder:
- Material downloaded from the internet
- Printed music including the words
- Loose maps and charts
- Unpublished religious orders of service
- House journals and other free publications primarily for employees of commercial, industrial, and government organisations
- Illustrations and/or photographs that are not part of a work that is in the scope of the licence, e.g. a photograph alone would not be within the scope of the licence whereas a photograph in a published book would be within scope
- Privately owned documents issued for tuition purposes and limited to clientele who pay fees
- Theses, dissertations, and student papers
- Workbooks: publications designed to guide the work of a student, support classroom work, internal assessment and end-of-year revision
- Entire plays
